Editorial standards

Every guide on Soap & Soil is held to the same rules. They are published here so you can hold us to them.

How guides are researched

We start from the question people actually ask, then check it against primary sources: manufacturer instructions, appliance and material guidance, agricultural extension services, and standards bodies. Where a claim needs a source, the source is linked in the post.

What we do not claim

We do not present tests we have not run, results we have not measured, or personal anecdotes that did not happen. Where a method works only on certain materials, finishes or climates, the guide says which.

Safety

Where a job involves gas, mains electrical work beyond a plug, structural changes, roof height, or mixing cleaning chemicals, we state the limit plainly and tell you to bring in a professional. We would rather lose the click.

Accuracy and updates

Guides are reviewed on a schedule and updated when the facts move — a product is discontinued, guidance changes, or a better method becomes standard. Updated posts keep their original URL so links to them keep working.
